Better Than Words

Our precocious little Scarlett. Learning to read before she even learns to eat!

I really hate when they interrupt my morning paper with a photo shoot!

The answer is yes, I worked out in utero.

Somebody wake me when my mom gets here!

I cannot begin to express how much your comments and prayers and emails and messages have meant to us this week. They have given us the strength we need to be the parents we need to be as our little ones recover.

We are absolutely bursting with pride to be a part of this worldwide community.

Today, someone asked me what the heck I'm going to do in India for 2 months. In my head I thought, well for starters, I am going to respond to each and every one of the messages we have received and tell everyone individually just how much their words have meant to us.

In the meantime, I'd like to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU--I CANNOT WAIT TO SHARE WITH OUR CHILDREN SOMEDAY THE STORY OF WORLDWIDE LOVE THAT GAVE THEM THE STRENGTH TO RECOVER!

We know our little ones are feeling the effects of your well wishes, as our Scarlett is now breathing on her own! Now come on Hayden-- you can do it!

  2. Hi Hon
I have been praying for Scarlett and Hayden. I hope you feel more relaxed once you are over there with them. Twins are often early and in years to come you will look back and not believe just how tiny they were and how stressed you were. Two months in Delhi is nothing when you have at last become a Mummy and you have two babies to visit, then care for every day xx

  12. Thank you for the beautiful photos. I was quite overcome because I know exactly where they are and in such capable hands of Dr Gupta and his team. It brings back memories of another time another era. I can't believe the change that I have seen from then (NICU at Pitampura) and now from go to whoa, from 1and a 1/2 kilos and 2 kgs to more than 7. in about 7 months. Scarlett and Hayden will be there too. Prayers of strength to you and Duanne prayers for strength and healing to your babies and prayers of thanks to G-d because he is so good and prayers of gratitude to Dr Shivani and her fabulous team and Dr Gupta and his wonderful staff. Cant wait for you to get there safely. I have very strong feelings that we should enjoy our time there in India and see it as our temporary home rather than dizzily trying to get home. India is a bewitching country and there is so much to see and do. When the babies are discharged from Pitampura ask Shilpi to get Miriam the very capable nurse or one of her staff to come and help you. It is really very reasonable and you will get precious sleep and support before Duanne comes over. I am so deliriously happy for you. n

  21. Oh my, Scarlet is soooo sweet and very very cute! Is that a smile for the camera in the 2nd picture? Hayden is basically being a chilled out dude. Wow, they are both so gorgeous. Big hugs to the cuties. Something tells me they'll be quite the energetic handful with adventurous personalities very soon! Love to all four of you and lots of prayers. xx Ayesha

  23. My gosh, they are absolutely gorgeous!! I am sooooo excited for you to hold those little cuties, I can't imagine how excited you are!! Thanks for keeping us updated so often - I am obsessively checking what it happening with your little family.

Sending notes back to people - seriously, you will have your hands full gazing lovingly at those cutersons for two months. Don't worry about anyone else, you just take care of your family, it is enough to see you reaching your dreams.

  25. "What are you going to do for 2 months in India?" - What sort of question is that?!! You'll be with your babies and doing everything you can to be with your babies!
Yay for little steps forward! I so can't wait to read more.

  26. When you're back in India, just enjoy your babies. Don't think of us more than posting a little update now and then as there are so many who want to know about your family. But really, forget the world, love and feel the glory of being parents. <3

  33. Your babies are so beautiful. We pray for you that you hold on to hope and have strength while you are so far away from your babies. God will protect them and give them the strength they need every day. Thanks for sharing your blog and even though it must be so hard you will be with them soon enough and they look very well cared for. They just need their Mommy to give them hugs and kisses! All the best and congratulations.

  34. I was happy to see that you used some humor with your captions. The "The answer is yes. I worked out in utero" caption was my favorite. Moving in the right direction...love hearing the news. Keep it coming! Safe travels!!!

  38. First off, I want to tell you to be encouraged by your babies progress. Right now their biggest hurdle is their lungs, right? I've been told over and over again by the NICU staff here that they can fix lungs. Lung issues aren't a big deal. They can fix lungs, hearts and tummies. So if they have problems with those, try and rest easy (easier said than done, I KNOW!) because those things are all fixable. And even if their lungs really suck at first, they will grow out of it. I've been promised this by six neonatal doctors here.

Secondly, let this be something to hang on to - I was told by the doctors here that there are three big hurdles you have to overcome while in the NICU
    1. Making it past the first 12 hours
    2. Making it through the first three days
    3. Hitting full feedings

You've already done two of the three!! Your biggest, scariest hurdle left is to get to full feedings. AND if you checked what I wrote first, tummies are fixable, even if they end up with something scary!!

Your babies are beautiful. I can't wait until you get to see them in person :)
